The UWSP Men’s Hockey Team gear up for WIAC home and home series against UW-River Falls on Wednesday Feb 10th and Friday Feb 12th.

Last Time Out:
The Pointers are coming off a split series with UWEC when the Blugolds overcame the Pointers 7-3 in the season opener on Wed Feb 3rd at K.B. Willett Arena. Friday Feb 5th saw the Pointers get their first win of the season by a score of 2-1 over UWEC in Eau Claire.

UWRF is also coming off a split series against UW-Stout where they fell 1-5 on Feb 3rd and then turned around and won 4-1 on Feb 5th against UW-Stout.

The UWSP Men’s Hockey team opened up their WIAC Conference only season against confrence rival UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday Feb 3rd at home followed by a road trip on Friday Feb 5th.

Wednesday in the season opener UWSP was unable overcome a early 4 goal run by UWEC in the first period.

In the second period we saw the Pointers get a pair of goals as well as one from UWEC to end the second period with a score of UWSP 2 and UWEC 5.

In the third period of the game the Pointers were able to score one more time but it wasn’t enough as UWEC scored twice in the third period to bring the final score of the season opener to UWEC 7 UWSP 3.

Friday, Feb 5th, the UWSP Men’s Hockey team hit the road for the first time this season for the second game of the UWSP UWEC home and home series.

The game went scoreless in the first period leaving the first period at 0-0.

The second period started out in Eau Claire’s favor when they scored the first goal of the game at 5:42 to lead 1-0 over UWSP. Soon after the Pointers received two power play chances and capitalized on the second power play to tie up the game 1-1. 29 seconds later the Pointers scored again to take the lead 2-1 over UWEC.

The third period went scoreless and lead to the Pointers getting their first win of the season by a score of 2-1 and splits the series with WIAC rival UW-Eau Claire.

​The Pointers will head back on the road Wednesday Feb 10th to face UW-River Falls and then return home Feb 12th to K.B Willett Arena to host UW-River Falls with a 7pm faceoff set for both games.

The UWSP Men’s Hockey Team make their return to competition for the first time since March 7th 2020, on Wednesday February 3rd, 2021 against UW-Eau Claire at K.B. Willett Arena Stevens Point, WI.

The COVID-19 Pandemic shut down the original start date to the 2020-21 season that would have been in October, but on January 19th the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Council of Chancellors voted and announced winter sports competition would return the week of Feb. 1st, with all schedules featuring competition against conference only opponents. While spectators will not be allowed at WIAC events during the winter sports season, UWSP Athletics recently announced their “Virtual Tickets for the Great Pointer Return” program.

This season, ALL UWSP Men’s Hockey Home Games will be broadcasted live on the UWSP Athletics YouTube Channel where the Pointers Hockey broadcast team of Tom Weaver and Shaun McMahon also return.
